CQUniversity sponsors Kingsley College in the Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of CQUniversity, the Kingsley CQU Zoomers will be competing next week in the Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP). Taking place in Gladstone, the competition sees local school students design and race hydrogen powered cars in a marathon four hour race.

Seth (Team Leader), Koby (Driver), Riley (Driver), Archie (Pit Mechanic), Jesse (Pit Mechanic) and Xavier (Spotter) are excited to take on the challenge! They have been busy tinkering with their design, and testing its performance. They were fortunate enough to meet up with a number of CQUniversity faculty members for some tips and tricks for the upcoming race. While this leg of the H2GP takes place in Gladstone, the winning team will progress to compete in Los Angeles later in the year.

On the hydrogen front, Gladstone has recently opened the Fortescue Gladstone Electrolyser Facility, which is the first facility in Australia to mass-produce hydrogen electrolysers. Through the use of electricity, these electrolysers separate water into oxygen and hydrogen, allowing the hydrogen to be used as a clean fuel source in vehicles and other applications. This facility presents the latest in Australia’s rise to a world-leading producer of clean hydrogen.

This race and partnership is a great opportunity for the team to put their skills to the test, and to engage with a technology at the forefront of clean energy.
