Resilience Cafe is a project that the Years 7-8 and Years 9-10 students have been working on this term. As part of the students’ assessment for ‘Integrated Studies’, the driving question for this particular project has been:
What can we learn from other people’s inspiring stories of resilience that we might be able to use in our own lives?
Throughout the term, students have listened to and read stories about people who have demonstrated resilience. We have then explored some of the attributes of resilience and how they can possibly put those into practice especially in their own lives. In an attempt to inspire others, students will be presenting spoken-word performances relating to the theme of resilience. The students have either devised, adapted or borrowed their piece of spoken-word to present. The project culminates in a cafe-like event, which each class group is planning. It is a student-driven activity and students are responsible for organising refreshments, designing the layout of the room, creating invitations, menus and signs as well as decorating the room.
Years 9-10 are hosting their event on Monday, 24th June between 1:45 and 3:00 pm and Years 7-8 are hosting their event at the school Open Night, Wednesday, 26th June, between 4:30 and 6:30 pm.
The spoken-word performances will be presented by individual or groups of students throughout the time-frame of each event.
